Utah Governor to Help Homeowners, Posted by Dick Gaylord

I’m visiting the Utah REALTORS® this week, and several members of the Utah State leadership and I had a chance to meet with Gov. John Huntsman and Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert on Tuesday.
Joining me in the photo below are (left to right) Taylor Oldroyd, CEO of the Utah County Association; Kenny Parcell, President of the Utah County Association; Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert; Matt Barton, President-Elect of the Utah County Association, Chris Kyler, CEO of the Utah Association; and Lerron Little, 2009 President-Elect of the Utah Association.

As some of you know, Gary Herbert is a REALTOR® and a past chair of NAR’s Issues Mobilization Committee. Both he and Gov. Huntsman are strong advocates for real estate. Utah’s economic strength is a credit to their good work and leadership. We are fortunate to have them both in office, and I am hopeful that Gary will follow Gov. Huntsman, who has said that he will not run for another term.
Although Utah has fared better than some other states in the current housing cycle, it has not been immune to the problems in the credit markets and the rise in foreclosures. I was very excited to hear that Gov. Huntsman is planning to set aside $30 million to help people who are have trouble with their mortgages avoid foreclosure. A portion would also help renters.
While the federal government is taking steps to address broad issues in the financial and housing markets, they can’t (and shouldn’t) be the only answer. I personally thank Gov. Huntsman and Lt. Gov. Herbert for their leadership in Utah, and I encourage other state and local leaders to do the same.
REALTORS® stand ready to work with public officials at all levels of government to help strengthen our communities and keep homeownership alive and well.
On Wednesday morning, I met with members who give significantly to RPAC through the Utah County Association. I talked to them about how we make decisions on which candidates to support, and I emphasized that 70 percent of the money they contribute stays right here in Utah. It was a good meeting, and I thank all of the Utah members who participate in our advocacy through RPAC and Grassroots.
Later that morning, I had the opportunity to speak to nearly 500 members at the Utah general membership meeting. They have three of these meetings per year, and to have that many people attend is remarkable. I spoke to them about how much we have accomplished this year, particularly on the public policy front. And I assured them that we will keep working to help REALTORS® and their clients in this challenging time.
The entire visit was inspiring, but the highlight for me was hearing Kenny Parcell address the members. Not only is he an incredible leader, but the experiences he shared, and the way he was able to reach out to REALTORS® in Utah, were just incredible.
Thanks to all of the wonderful folks in Utah for inviting me to visit – I am so proud to be your NAR President. Keep up the great work. You continue to prove that there is nothing we can’t accomplish when we work “All Together.” – Dick Gaylord, 2008 NAR President

Daily Herald

Below is an article that was in the Daily Herald recently.

Daily Herald
Realtor Kenny Parcell, a sales agent with RE/MAX Results in Spanish Fork, will be the 2009 vice president of the Utah Association of Realtors. Parcell, who was recently installed at the association's annual Inaugural Dinner, will replace Lerron Little of Provo who is serving in the position for 2008. Parcell will officially begin the one-year term in November at the National Association of Realtors' Conference and Expo in Orlando. Parcell is the 2008 president of the Utah County Association of Realtors and was recently the youngest person ever appointed to a position on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Realtors. Parcell is a recipient of the Realtor of the Year award from the Utah County Association of Realtors and was named as one of Utah Valley Magazine's "Top 40 Entrepreneurs Under 40" in 2006. Parcell has been inducted into the RE/MAX Hall of Fame and is a RE/MAX Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
Other UAR officers were also installed. Realtor Chris Sloan, a branch broker with Group 1 Real Estate in Tooele, will be 2009 president; Lerron Little, broker/owner of Capstone Real Estate in Provo, will be president-elect; and Lori Chapman, an associate broker with Coldwell Banker Premier in St. George, will be treasurer.
The Utah Association of Realtors serves more than 16,000 members and is the official trade association for real estate professionals in Utah. More information about the association is available at UtahRealtors.com.

Economic Meltdown! Can you still get a loan for a home?

During these exciting times that are happening with our nation right now we have noticed that a lot of the discussions at the soccer field or at work or wherever are focused less on Obama & McCain and more and more on the economy. The topic with our friends seems to always end up on the Real Estate Market. Everyone knows that home loans are more difficult to get right now. We are often asked the question of are there any loans left to qualify for? I asked a local lender to give us the run down on 4 of the most popular loan programs right now.
The most used loan right now in the country is the FHA Loan. The rate on this loan as of today is 5.875%. It allows you to finance 97% of the purchase price. Which means that you only need to bring 3% down.
The next loan is the FHA Utah Housing loan. The current rate is 6.01% and it allows you to bring 0% down. There is an income limitation cap of $71,000 on this one. It also has about $500 in additional closing costs over the traditional FHA loan.
Another great loan product right now is the USDA Rural Housing Loan. It is also a 0% down loan. The home has to be located south of Spanish Fork or West of Lehi. The rate is 6.125% right now.
Last but not least is the standard conventional loan that now requires 5% down (based on the purchase price). The rate on this loan is 6%.
So the answer is yes, you can still get a loan and at a rate that is the best they have been in a long time. Couple the low rates with the reduced prices and motivated sellers and you have a great opportunity to be a buyer right now.

Hunting With Max Theriot

Kenny Went Hunting With Max Theriot, Doyle Moss And Kaylan Lemmon. They had Several Chances To Shoot Three 30" Bucks And Somehow The Arrow Missed It's Mark. Max Hit A Giant Buck And They Tracked It For Two Days And Had A Couple Other Attempts At Him But The Buck Is Big For A Reason And Gave Them The Slip Each Time. It Was A Great Hunt And Everyone There Had A Wonderful Time.

Kelsey and Dad

I took my family out boating the other day. Kelsey and I were wakeboarding together. My best time ever wakeboarding.

NAR President to Visit Utah County

The Kenny Parcell Team is excited to welcome President Richard F. Gaylord of the National Association of Realtors to the Utah County Association of Realtors quarterly Luncheon on Wednesday October 22, 2008 in Provo. President Gaylord was elected to be the NAR President for 2008 out of 1.3 million Realtors from across the country. Kenny is currently our Utah County Association President and is excited to be an integral part of making President Gaylord's visit a success.
While here, President Gaylord will also attend an RPAC breakfast and help us to raise money to support legislation that is Private Property rights friendly. This visit by our National President marks the first time that an NAR president that is not a Utah native has visited the state.
